OLD GOA: Over a hundred locals of Zuari-Goa Velha staged a peaceful protest against the construction of 4G towers in their residential areas, even as Tiswadi BDO Bhiku Gawas and his team inspected both construction sites on Wednesday.
Armed with placards, the locals braved the hot sun for over two hours as the BDO reached the sites only at around 3.30 pm.
BDO Gawas along with EOVP Anil Dhumaskar, Goa Velha panchayat secretary Basilo Pires and other staff inspected both construction sites and took measurements of the alleged illegal construction that has taken place.
Later speaking to media persons, Gawas informed that he had issued a stay order and asked the party concerned to produce documents within a certain timeframe.
“The party did not produce any documents till date and hence the site inspection was conducted,” he said, while informing that he will now submit the report to the deputy director of panchayats by Monday.
“I have followed all due process and now my role ends here,” he said. “It will be the deputy director of panchayats who will decide on the future course of action.”
Meanwhile, the agitation of the Zuari locals received a major boost as local MLA Vishnu Wagh and Goa Velha Parish Priest Fr Emidio Pinto extended their support to the locals who have been protesting against the setting up of 4G towers in residential areas.
Both Wagh and Fr Pinto had addressed a public meeting, which was organized near the Goa Velha church premises, on Monday.
