Ponda traffic personnel on Sunday attracted public ire, after they allegedly released two vehicles, while other vehicles were locked in a ‘no parking zone’ at Sadar-Ponda.
It may be recalled that Ponda city has a serious parking problem and recently, Ponda traffic cell with the help of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) had demarcated parking areas for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Signboards were also installed in respective demarcated parking lanes and if any vehicle which was found violating the parking orders were either fined or the vehicles tyre was clamped.
In one such incident, few two-wheelers were parked in the parking lane, which is reserved for four-wheelers at Sadar-Ponda. However, the situation got chaotic after few two-wheelers were allegedly released from the same spot.
Unhappy with the release of certain two-wheelers, owners of two-wheelers whose vehicles were clamped created chaos and demanded an explanation from the traffic personnel.
However, the traffic personnel refuted charges claiming that if the vehicles are found parked in ‘no-parking zone’ or in wrong parking lanes then only the vehicle is locked. The owner later had to pay a fine and the lock was removed.
Later, Ketan’s and other two-wheelers, which were clamped, were released without any fines.
The traffic movement was also partly obstructed due to the chaos. However, the situation was normalised only after Ponda police rushed to the site.
PSI Deepak Pednekar along with his personnel dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control.
