In the wake of the tragic incident resulting in the death of two women due to a fire associated with domestic LPG cylinders, GOACAN (Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network) has called for a thorough inquiry by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (DCSCA). The consumer advocacy group is seeking clarity on various aspects surrounding the incident.
The proposed inquiry, to be conducted by Civil Supplies Inspectors, aims to determine whether the dealer supplying the LPG refills adhered to the Mandatory Mechanical Check (MMC). This safety check, mandated once every two years, includes validating whether the date of the check was duly endorsed on the Domestic Gas Consumer Card.

Additionally, GOACAN is keen on exploring whether the insurance available to LPG consumers in cases of injury or death could lead to compensation for the families of the deceased women. The inquiry also seeks to assess the level of Safety Awareness conducted in the locality for the benefit of LPG consumers.
GOACAN has taken a stance on this matter and plans to engage in discussions with Jayant G. Tari, Director DCSCA, and Sanjit Rodrigues IAS, Secretary Consumer Affairs, during a scheduled meeting on November 22. Roland Martins, the Coordinator of GOACAN, emphasizes the importance of a thorough investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
