MARGAO: The battle lines are clearly drawn atop Moti Dongor and adjoining Talsanzor hillock, even as the beleaguered residents are bracing up for a legal battle against the Communidade action.
The Administrator of Communidades, South Zone, has served notices on as many as 373 structures ~ 257 at Moti Dongor and balance 116 at Talsanzor ~ as the two-day exercise of serving demolition notices ended on Tuesday.
The Communidade has served a 10-day deadline on the inhabitants to either demolish the structure by themselves or has threatened action against the structures under the Goa Land (Prohibition on Construction) Act, 1995.
The residents get time till February 22 to produce any authorization for occupation from the competent authority or to stay the proceedings before the appropriate court of law.
A group of residents from Talsanzor are believed to have sought legal advise on the notice of removal as they have exactly 10 days to make representations to the Communidade Administrator.
When contacted, Communidade Administrator Pravin Barad said that three parties had approached his office on Tuesday with a representation against the demolition. But, he said the trio was told to file proper documentation. Meanwhile, women’s activist Tara Kerkar has demanded filing of a criminal case against the CM for inaugurating water supply scheme at Moti Dongor during his previous tenure in 2002. “Why did the Communidade turn a blind eye when Parrikar inaugurated the drinking water scheme for the residents,” she said and demanded to know why was the government initiating action based on a petition filed by a Mumbai lawyer.
