PANJIM: Amidst uproar over Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik’s allegation of high level corruption in the BJP-led Goa government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa Unit has dared him to resign from the constitutional post and then level charges against a government.

“It is not correct to level charges against a government while holding a constitutional post. Resign and then criticise the government,” BJP general secretary Damodar Naik said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Naik questioned the Governor’s intention behind making serious charges against the Pramod Sawant-led government at a time when Assembly polls are barely four months away.
“There is something called ethics of propriety. If he (Governor) saw things were not going the right way (during his tenure as Goa Governor from November 2019 to August 2020), he should have sent a report to his superiors rather than going to the public,” Naik added.
The party has also slammed the Opposition for taking undue advantage of the situation while referring to alleged corrupt practices by parties like Congress and Goa Forward, whose leaders, supported by other regional parties, are now demanding Sawant’s resignation.
“The demand for resignation is nothing but a publicity stunt ahead of the polls,” Naik said, adding, “All the Opposition leaders have come together to form Maha Agadhi to ensure BJP doesn’t come back to power.”
BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade had on Monday claimed that allegations by Malik on public platform are ‘extremely false’.
