PANJIM: The Public Works Department (PWD) will re-introduce the One-Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme for water consumers as the department intends to recover dues amounting to Rs 45 – 50 crore.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral on Tuesday said that the OTS scheme will be introduced from January 1, 2023 and it will be fully in online system and open for one-month only for consumers to apply. He said that as many as six options will be given to consumers to clear their pending dues with waiver while, without any deductions, the consumer will be allowed to clear dues in 10 installments starting from next month.

Cabral said that the full rate of interest on principal amount will be waived of those consumers, who clear their pending bills within two months, while 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% interest waiver will be given to consumers.
The PWD will also set up helpline number for consumers to call for any advice or in case of any difficulty, he said.
The Minister warned that that those who fail to opt for the OTS scheme will face disconnection of his/her water supply connection from February. He said that though he had no off-hand information of exact number of defaulters, nearly Rs 40 – 50 crore water bills are pending.
