PANJIM: Casino owners on Friday ridiculed the government circular asking them not to serve liquor beyond 11 pm, saying that the move is ‘illogical’.
Addressing a press conference in the city, John Snowball, representing the casino owners said that the 95 per cent of the people who come to casinos are tourists and have nothing to do with the ongoing elections.
“It may also be noted,” he continued, “that candidates cannot afford to entertain their voters at the casino as there is Rs 500 and Rs 2000 entry fee in onshore and offshore casinos respectively.”
“Keeping in mind the above facts and potential loses to the casino and tourism industry we have submitted a memorandum to the chief secretary Sanjay Srivastava, who has assured to look into the matter,” Shrinivas said.
Asked what would be their future course of action in case the government does not revert the decision, he said, “we will not go against the decision but we appealed to them pointing out the huge loses we have been facing in the last two days.”
