In the 35th minute, Benny could have taken the lead as Gauraj latched in on to a pass from Manthan, squeezed past the defenders and the onrushing goalkeeper Sail but delayed in shooting at the goal.
On the other side, Goan Warriors’ Rakesh Sawal was twice well positioned inside the penalty box but he failed to score.
It was in the 42nd minute that Benny XI forged ahead. Stepleton backpassed to unmarked Mohit Santendar who finished it clinically.
Goan Warriors were a complete transformed unit after the break as they attacked the rival citadel in waves.
First, a stiff grounder by Sunny Parab deflected off the defender and in the 65th minute Sunny Parab was brought down inside the 18-yard box by a Benny defender prompting the referee to point to the dreaded spot. However, Oscar D’Souza saw his spot kick being brilliantly saved by Benny’s goalkeeper Utkarsh Khorjuvekar.
Exactly, two minutes later Oscar D’Souza made up for his lapse and scored from inside the 6-yard box.
Oscar almost netted his brace but Benny’s goalkeeper Utkarsh brought off a full stretched diving save.
At the other, a 25-yard rasping strike by Chiraj Kauthankar rebounded off the crossbar.
At Duler stadium, Mapusa, Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club had an easy outing as they trounced Cunchelim SC 5-1. Reeve D’Costa netted a hat-trick with Regan Costa and Mohammed Khan adding their names to Vagator’s sheet. Rohit Parsekar scored a consolation goal for Cunchelim.
At Sirsaim ground, Assonora United edged past Sinquerim SC 2-1.
PVC Parra got the better of Bidesh XI 2-1 at Guirim ground.
