David (Gorakashnath Rane) and his wife Maria (Annie Fernandes) are medical practitioners. Day-in and day-out they are so pre-occupied with consultations, conferences and practice, that the duo hardly has time for their only son Mervin (Manuel Dias), who is studying law.
No doubt, David and Maria shower upon Mervin all the necessities and luxuries of life, but fail to keep a track of his way of life. Mervin goes astray due to lavish spending.
One fine day, police inspector (Franky Dantos) steps in at David’s residence and arrests Mervin for his involvement in a crime. Husband and wife find it difficult to digest the truth.
In a flashback, various situations reveal that David and Maria failed to provide time and parental love to their only son Mervin.
‘Hanv Ni Ami’ had a good storyline, but the entire drama moved at a snail’s pace and demanded finer tuning. The dragging of the scene at the police station before the interval and the crime scene as a flashback during the second half appeared that either the script was short or the director was making efforts to kill time.
The usage of spotlights, besides monologues and omission of side panels was a clear reflection of ‘nattak’ on the Konkani stage rather than a tiatr.
Gorakashnath Rane and Maria as medical practitioners were convincing, though better performance could be expected from them. Manuel Dias gave his best as the spoilt brat. Franky Dantos looked in command as the police inspector, but sometimes faltered in dialogue delivery. Sebastiao Rodrigues as Dr Xavier was impressive in dialogues.
In the comical acts, Tesav (Beliza Rebeiro) and Chingam (Narendra Usgaonkar) formed a perfect duo for laughter riot among the audience.
In the category of songs, solos rendered by Juje, Cameron and Benjamine Fernandes, a trio by Nafisa, Beliza and Cheryl and a quartet by Cheryl, Rachel, Safra and Teresa were appealing to the ears.
