MARGAO: The South Goa district administration has embarked on an ambitious project to issue caste certificates to all people belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes in South Goa.
South Goa plays host to around 22,000 families belonging to the ST community and another 1,800 belonging to SC. District Collector N D Agrawal says that he intends to complete the exercise by December end.
He had a meeting with all deputy collectors and mamlatdars as part of the exercise and he will hold another meeting later this week with the talathis and leaders of the ST and SC communities.
“By September end, I will ensure that the caste certificate forms are made available to all applicants. After scrutiny of documents, we will start issuing certificates from October. I will try to achieve the objective by December end,” he said.
