MARGAO: Wholesale Fish Market Association president Maulana Ibrahim on Monday said the traders have decided not to import fish from other States till the market is opened.

It is pertinent to note that the “war” between the SGPDA and the fish traders at the wholesale fish market in Margao has reached its peak.
The fish traders on Monday said they will not import any fish into Goa from Monday (June 1) till the wholesale fish market is opened.
Ibrahim said “We will stop getting fish into Goa from today until the fish market of SGPDA is opened. We want to give cheap and good fish to Goans”.
“The MHA guidelines had approved the operations at the fish market. We wrote to the PDA with the list of activities that are allowed to open. The PDA said they will consult with the District Collector and take a decision. The Collector gave a green signal after which we wrote to PDA again informing that the prices of fish are increasing and the market has to open. However, even after requests and authority’s decisions, the PDA has prolonged the opening of the market,” Ibrahim claimed.
“We have provided all the details which the SGPDA sought, but there is no decision as yet. Now, at our general body meeting we have decided not to import fish from other States,” he informed.
“Charge the traders whatever you want, but start the market. We want to provide cheap and good fish to the people of Goa,” the Association President said adding that prices of fish have reached an all-time high.
