MARGAO: Swati Salgaocar, vice-president of Salgaocar FC Youth Development programme inaugurated the Salgaocar Football Club sponsored Sao Jose de Areal Youth Football Centre Wednesday, in the presence of Alberto Colaco, Salcete FC secretary, Julio Monteiro, sarpanch of Areal, Fr Manuel Antao and other dignitaries at Padribhat ground.

“Many footballers from Areal have donned Salgaocar FC’s green and whites, so it was only fitting that we give back to the village by helping Salcete in their endeavor,” Swati Salgaocar said.
Salgaocar FC’s Youth Development Programme has youth teams ranging from Under-12 to Under-20 and this is a re-affirmation of their commitment to Goan football by joining hands with Salcete FC and opening this grassroots center in Areal for kids from 8 to 10 years. Around 45 boys have already registered and will be trained two to three times a week.
SFC senior team players from Areal – namely, Gilbert Oliveira, Marcus Mascarenhas, Godfrey Silva and Ashlon will mentor 10 to 12 young footballers each in skills, attitude and discipline in a “Big Brother” Concept and started off by distributing Salgaocar FC jerseys to the participants.
