MARGAO: In an urgent call to all stakeholders, two senior Comunidade attorneys, John Phillip Pereira of Nagoa Comunidade and Dr Shivanand Gauns of Mapusa Comunidade, have urged active participation in the upcoming Comunidade Convention 2024. Stressing the importance of unity and focus, they cautioned delegates and components against falling prey to attempts to misguide the public, as observed in earlier conventions.
The attorneys highlighted the significance of the Comunidades Convention, mandated by Art 652 of the Code of Comunidades, as a crucial once-in-five-years platform for Comunidade members across Goa. Scheduled for January 14 at the NIO Auditorium, Dona Paula, the convention holds immense importance in shaping the future of heritage bodies.

“We have received the agenda for the Convention, covering a spectrum of challenges faced by the Comunidades, besides seeking elimination of discrimination against women. This gathering presents an invaluable opportunity for every delegate to contribute his/her insights, experiences, and knowledge for the collective improvement of our age-old institutions,” they added. “However, we are aware of the presence of a handful of disruptive elements attempting to misguide delegates by spreading misinformation. Similar attempts were witnessed during the 1997, 2009 and 2019 Conventions. We earnestly appeal to all delegates and componentes at large not to succumb to these mischievous maneuvers. Our Comunidades, integral to our rich heritage, are at a crossroads, necessitating our collective efforts for their rejuvenation,” they added further.
