The anticipated onset of the southwest monsoon in Goa has faced a delay due to the formation of a cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the monsoon is not expected to arrive in the State until after June 10, deviating from the usual arrival date of June 6.
However, on Wednesday, the severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy strengthened in the Arabian Sea and is expected to intensify further. Biparjoy has formed over the east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea. Its current location is approximately 890 kilometres west-southwest of Goa. The storm is projected to move nearly northwards and is anticipated to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) within the next 24 hours.

The IMD has issued a forecast of light to moderate rainfall at isolated places on Wednesday, followed by rainfall at a few locations within the subsequent 24 hours. A further increase in rainfall activity is expected on June 9 and 10, with numerous areas likely to receive rain. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
