PANJIM: To promote the learning of Romi Konknni, Broadway Book Centre, Panjim, will conduct a certificate course in Romi Konknni for beginners. The first batch will be from March 3 to 31, from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm from Monday to Friday, at Broadway Book Centre, Panjim.

PANJIML Manipal Hospitals Goa in association with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd LPG Plant, held a health talk on February 20, followed by a free general medical check up for the benefit of the workers at Verna. The camp began with a health talk on Diabetes Mellitus by Dr Goutam Jog – internal consultant, Manipal Hospitals.

PANJIM: Goa Chapter of WIRC-ICSI (Institute of Company Secretaries of India), Panjim, has appointed committee of company secretaries for 2014-2015. They are Dharmaraj J Bhonsle (chairman), Abhijit M Gaonkar (secretary), Shrinivas S Adkesar (treasurer), Savari L Muthu, Sarita D’Souza, K Guruprasad Prabhu, Urjita V Damle as members, P Sridhar (Registrar) as co-opted member.

The new committee will have Students Induction programme, professional development programme, investor awareness programmes and coaching classes in February and March.

PANJIM: Porvorim MLA in association with Yuva Welfare Trust Porvorim, has scheduled a blood donation camp on February 25, between 10 am to 1 pm, at his office at H No 1081, B B Borkar, Alto Porvorim, Salvador do Mundo. Parrikar congratulated Kelkar and said this website will help students and parents at large to know the different careers options available in Goa. GEDC Chairman Kanta Patnekar was present. The website careergoa.info gives information about careers in Goa, and is available in Konkani language.

Duo booked for prostitution 

CALANGUTE: Two persons have been booked in connection with prostitution activities in Calangute.

Calangute police along with panch witnesses and an NGO conducted a raid near a mall in Calangute on February 20 between 10 pm and 11.55 pm and nabbed two persons who had procured victim girls for the purpose of prostitution.

The Calangute Police has registered the offence under Section 4, 5 and 7 of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956 and is investigating the case.

BICHIOLIM: A resident of Vaiginim-Mayem died in a road accident at Karapur-Bicholim on Friday night.

According to reports, the accident occurred at about 8.30 pm when Jagdish Gaonkar was proceeding on his motorcycle from Sanquelim to Bicholim. On reaching the slope near ‘Green Acres’ at Karapur, the driver of an oncoming vehicle lost control and dashed against the motorcycle.

The collision was such that Jagdish died on the spot and both the vehicles were thrown off the road. Police is investigating the case.

CURCHOREM: The Centro Social Anjo Custodio, in association with Goa Tourism Development Corporation and Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council will organise Curchorem-Sanvordem and Sanguem Carnival Floats parade on March 3.

According to the organisers, the floats parade will start from Curchorem railway station at 4 pm and culminate at Kadamba bus stand after wending its way through the Curchorem market.

“The floats will be categorized into four categories ~ Traditional, Clubs, Junk Car Rally and Clown. Later, a Konkani musical show will be staged, while DJ Alley will also perform on the occasion,” informed CSAC President Christy Avileli.

PORVORIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte stated that students are connected to technology in ways that one could never have imagined earlier. He was speaking at a function organized by Holy Family High School, Porvorim, to distribute 210 tablets to its students.

Khaunte said that tablets bridge the gap of social inequality and students from economically weaker sections will be able to make use of modern devices.

Holy Family High School Chairman Vimala Pinto also spoke on the occasion. High School Headmistress Fatima D’Sa welcomed the gathering.

BELGAUM: Newly appointed Kolhapur SP Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma has stated that stringent action will be initiated against all illegal activities, including the prevailing illicit trafficking of liquor from Goa to Maharashtra and Karnataka via Ajara and Chandgad talukas of the district.

Dr Sharma, an IPS officer of 2005 batch, was speaking to media persons after assuming charge of the district on Wednesday. With the new SP assuming charge, illicit liquor trade including illegal activities between Goa and bordering talukas of Kolhapur district is expected to be under control.

“No illegal activity in any form will be tolerated and stringent measures will be initiated to curb any illegal activity anywhere in the district, especially at the border areas,” he said while replying to a question regarding rise in illicit trade and trafficking of Goa-made liquor and absence of check posts at strategic locations at Chandgad in Kolhapur district.

PANJIM: Dhavali Sarvajanik Charitable Trust in association with IMA Ponda Charitable Trust and Vidhya Diagnostics and Dr Dhaimodker’s research centre organized a diabetes, hypertension, anaemia and blood group detection camp at Satyanarayan Temple hall, Dhavali. The camp was inaugurated by Dr Navnath Bhatikar while Sanjay Ghate welcomed. Medical examination was conducted by members of IMA Ponda and other branches. Nearly 170 patients benefited from the camp.

PANJIM: Tablet devices were distributed in Dr Ambedkar English High School, Cuchelim, Mapusa by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza.  Recalling his days as a student D’Souza said there was no free transport, midday meals, books and uniform. He advised students to make proper use of the tablets.  Earlier Headmaster Dattaram Chari welcomed, while Sudesh Kochrekar compered the programme. A vote of thanks was proposed by Manager N G Akhargekar.

VASCO: The Cansaulim Arossim Cuelim Civic and Consumer Forum (CACCCF) and Cansaulim Villagers Action Committee will organise a public debate on ‘Future of Dabolim airport’ at Cansaulim market square on February 23 at 5.30 pm. The participants will be the representatives of political parties, BJP, Congress and the Aam Admi Party, along with the representatives of Goans For Dabolim Only.

The moderator will be John Silveira, lecturer R M Salgaocar Higher Secondary School, Margao, stated the press note issued here.

PANJIM: The feast of the Cross of Miracles (Khuris Milagre) will be celebrated on February 23, at Se Cathedral, Old Goa. Masses will be said at 7 am, 8.15 am and High Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Legend has it that upon this Cross of Miracles appeared crucified Christ on February 23, 1619, at Boa Vista Hill, Old Goa.  Kanji (Pez) will be served.

PANJIM: United Club of Utorda in association with Community Food and Nutrition Board GoI, conducted a course on home scale methods of fruits and vegetable preservation and nutrition education at Utorda. Maria Vaz. Director of Karma Foods was the chief guest and gave away the certificates to the 40 women and girls that attended. The course was conducted by Sandip Banaulikar, Demonstration officer, Nita Rane and Ankusk Palyekar, lab assistants. President Agnelo Pereira welcomed while secretary Trindade Fernandes gave the vote of thanks.
