Former TCP Min accuses govt of irregularities during land conversions

Margao: The Goa Forward Party President and former Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai  came down heavily against the alleged spree of land conversions undertaken by the Government. 

Vijai said, “During this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has taken the lives of more than 500 Goemkars and with no plan on how to tackle this pandemic, the BJP government in the State is busy conducting meetings to convert lands in Goa and not how to better the situation.”

He elaborated on how the current list of cases of conversion of land, which have been published in the local dailies as a ‘Public Notification’ albeit without the proper details. He showed how an earlier notification had been published in the newspapers with the correct and required details, which offered greater transparency. 

“The recent notification mentions only the ‘survey no’ and the ‘name of the village’. With details such as the ‘name of the applicant and area of the land parcel missing, said Sardesai, while  questioning whether the Government is hiding facts from the public.

The Ex-TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai said that the Govt is trying to cover up all its illegalities under the guise of the pandemic. He added that during his two-year stint as Minister, he had approved only 30 applications, whereas the new TCP Minister,  has approved more than 1,000 applications for conversion in barely a year. Vijai also demanded that all the details be made public.
