Mapusa: Following complaints received by the Tivim panchayat, a meeting was convened on Thursday to solve the issue of foul stench of garbage in the village. This was presided over by Sarpanch Sharmila Gadekar in the presence of other panchayat members and it was attended by residents and the garbage contractor, who resides in the village.

Following the deliberations, the contractor assured the panchayat body and local residents that he would not bring garbage in the village after March 31, 2021 onwards and also assured to give in writing.
Earlier, villagers had alleged that the said contractor was getting garbage from coastal areas in Tivim panchayat area for further segregations and in this regard, villagers had raised their objection on various occasions before the local panchayat body demanding action. The Sarpanch pointed out that this issue of garbage disposal and the foul stench has been prevailing since a long time.
