1.3 kg gold seized at Mopa airport

PANJIM: The Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Custom at the Manohar International Airport, Mopa arrested three persons from Tamil Nadu for allegedly illegally possessing 1.3 kg gold approximately valued at around Rs 83 lakh. 

The accused have been identified as Sundar Raman (23), Appas Manthiri (33) and Jayaprakash (35), all from Tamil Nadu.

According to the Customs, the accused had travelled from Mumbai to Mopa airport along with gold paste. A case has been registered against the three accused under section 132 or section 133 or section 135A of Customs Act 1962.

This was the second gold seizure at the Mopa airport since it was commissioned in December last year. A fortnight ago, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Goa Regional Unit had seized seven-kg gold paste and 28 I-phones worth Rs 3.92 crore from three passengers, who arrived from Abu Dhabi.
