MARGAO: Virtually orphaned post-2012 Assembly polls following the exit of Vijai Sardessai and the decimation of the party in the elections, the Fatorda Block Congress Committee has resolved to revamp the organisation by infusing young blood in a bid to position itself to play a more active political role in Fatorda constituency.
Interestingly, while the block had invited Congress President Subhash Shirodkar and other party leaders for the meeting, none of the top leaders, including South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, made it to the meeting presided by block president and Margao Municipal councillor, Tito Cardozo.
Addressing the workers, Tito said the block committee has resolved to revamp the block Congress organisation to meet future challenges. He said that district Congress president Subhash Faldessai has given him the go-ahead signal to induct new members and revamp the block committee.
“The job of infusing new blood in the Fatorda unit will be completed soon. The list will then be forwarded to party president for approval,” Tito said, while underlining the need to strengthen the party base in Fatorda. Workers gave vent to their sentiments stating that there’s no one to attend to their work in the constituency. They pointed out that the party leadership should work out a mechanism to take note of works suggested by the block and level workers. Replying to a question, Tito said the block will propose to the party leadership to ensure that party leaders visit the South Goa district office and attend to grievances of people.
To another question, Tito said that Leader of the Opposition, party MLAs, besides leaders, should visit the district office periodically to listen to the grievances of the grassroots level workers.
