Tension at Curti over attempt to close median-gap on 4-lane National Highway

PONDA: The locals of Curti-Khandepar on Wednesday  foiled an attempt by Highway workers  to close the median gap on the four lane National Highway at Curti, by holding a protest at the site.

Locals said they have no other access to proceed to Ponda, and demanded a two-way service road from Copperwada to Amigoes Junction for the safety of the locals.

They pointed out that the service road is six metres wide and making it two-way is possible, if the encroachments on it are cleared.  “The  median gap is the only way to enter the Highway, to proceed towards Ponda. If this median is closed, we have to cover a distance of two kilometers before we can get on the Highway and proceed towards Ponda,” complained a local, who participated in the protest. They said they were earlier assured an underpass, when the construction of the NH was underway, but it was not fulfilled.

Sandeep Parkar, a local who had complained to the Deputy Collector about a dangerous median gap which was being misused by truckers, said that an order was given to close that particular median gap alone.
