MARGAO: The construction of an ‘illegal’ mega gadda in a land marked for road widening at the Old Market, Margao has raised eyebrows in Margao and Fatorda. It is alleged that the gadda is being erected illegally near the old municipal building and is almost complete.
Meanwhile, MMC Chief Officer Yashwant Tawde informed that his office had already visited the site and had ordered to stop the work three days ago. “We have received a fresh complaint today and we will again direct the owner to stop the work,” said Tawde.
Some time back, MMC was very much vocal about some gadda being granted permission in its jurisdiction but remained silent on the alleged illegal structure near the old municipal building, which is almost complete with the metal roof and fabrication work already done.
Savio Coutinho alleged, “The wooden gadda is getting transformed into a huge double height permanent structure in the road widening area. One may wonder if this is a case where none of the authorities have noticed the activity. As per information we received, an engineer, who visited the place, was immediately ordered to stay away by the powers that be.”
