Mumbai police are currently probing a controversial letter that surfaced, purportedly written by eight female police constables from the motor transport department. The letter alleges rape, sexual harassment, and blackmail by three superior officers, but the female officers involved vehemently deny writing it.
The three-page letter, sent via speed post to senior police officers, accuses the three senior officers of raping the female constables, filming the acts, and subsequently blackmailing them. The letter also claims that the victims were threatened to pay a monthly sum of Rs 1000 to their alleged assailants.

Despite the serious nature of the accusations, the eight constables have refuted the authenticity of the letter, asserting that they did not write or sign it. They claim that the signatures on the document are forged. According to reports, the women officers stated that the letter was a hoax when questioned, leading to a shift in focus toward identifying the origin of the letter.
In response to the conflicting statements, the mobile phones of the three accused senior officers have been seized to facilitate a thorough investigation. Initially focused on the rape allegations, the police are now actively working to identify the person responsible for sending the letter. Joint Commissioner of Police, S Jaykumar, confirmed the shift in focus, stating that the primary goal is to unveil the individual behind the alleged hoax.
The letter, purportedly written by the female constables, details instances of sexual assault, claiming that the two police inspectors took advantage of their rural backgrounds. It describes incidents where the officers were allegedly assaulted in the DCP’s house under the pretext of work duty. The letter also alleges the filming of these acts, subsequent blackmail, and inappropriate demands for intimate photographs.
