At a meeting with officials of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), ESIC and State Labour Commission, Union Labour Secretary Shankar Agarwal asked, “Why can’t the State of Goa implement Telemedicine Facility? I would suggest ESI Corporation to implement it as soon as possible.”
Telemedicine Facility is a healthcare consultancy through phone where one can seek advice and treatment guidelines though audio, video and data communication. It is not just a helpline, but an extension of doctor-patient appointment. Adding to the current procedure of telemedicine, Agarwal suggested delivering medicine to the doorstep after the online check-up. “This technology will play a major role in eliminating distance barriers if implemented,” he added.
Speaking to Herald after the meeting, Agarwal said, “ESI Corporation has been providing best quality health services in an efficient manner so therefore telemedicine will take a step ahead and we will achieve it soon.”
Meanwhile, taking into account the initiatives and schemes by EPFO and the State Labour Commission, Agarwal said, “Goa Government has unique schemes. These innovative steps can be also taken at the national level.”
