CUNCOLIM: “No society can progress unless the youth and students challenge what has been done before. They must question the practices of the past generation. Only inquisitive minds can revolt; blind followers cannot think other than follow somebody and because of this, they stop thinking,” retired Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Dr Ferdinand Rebello said on Wednesday.
He was addressing the 58th Founders Day of Cuncolim Educational Society as the chief guest at the Cuncolim Municipal Council hall.
Advising the students not to fall prey to dirty politicians, Dr Rebello urged them to believe in themselves and dream big.
“Dreams can come true only through hard work and dedication. Nothing is impossible if one believes in oneself,” Dr Rebello said.
He also said that no country can grow without accepting Constitutional values. “The Indian Constitution teaches us about secularism, fraternity, equality and many other values. We must follow these principles at all costs,” he said.
“We have forgotten the values of idealism, truth and nonviolence taught by Mahatma Gandhi. The whole world has accepted the value of nonviolence mantra of Gandhi, but we have forgotten this key value,” he said.
“We must not be narrow minded; Gandhiji advised us to accept what is good in all cultures and civilisations and stay away from bad,” Dr Rebello said.
On Cuncolim Educational Society, Dr Rebello said it is a unique institution established to provide quality education to marginalised sections of the society. “This Society succeeded in providing higher education to tribal students,” in observed.
He praised the efforts of the Society in providing good education to all.
On the occasion, alumni and management committee member Vijay Kumar Kopre was felicitated for getting the best State Teacher award.
Retired teachers and staff members of the Society were felicitated by Dr Rebello.
Chairman Dilip Dessai gave a brief History of the Society. Vice Chairman Datta Kumar Ambe welcomed, Secretary Neenad Dessai read the report, Malika Dessai compered, while Manoj Sapre thanked.
Dr Rebello was felicitated by Chairman Dilip Dessai for his contribution in the law field.
