PANJIM: In what could provide relief to Taleigao constituents, the PWD (Water Supply) in an affidavit told the High Court that it will construct 650 cum overhead reservoir, 2,000 cubic metres sump and a pump house at Taleigao in a bid to improve overall water supply to the constituency.
It will also lay conveying main and distribution pipeline at various diametres for improvement of water supply to Dona Paula and surrounding areas, all at an estimated cost of Rs 14,06,53,287.

This has been stated by PWD chief engineer-I (water supply) Santosh Mahatme in an affidavit filed before the High Court, which had taken suo motu cognisance of a letter regarding inadequate water supply to Dona Paula and surrounding areas.
The PWD Chief Engineer-I in his affidavit has stated that the total water carrying capacity of the three tanks was 22,50,000 litres which was perhaps sufficient to cater to the daily minimum requirement of areas, which works out to be 19,00,800 litres and was as per norms of CPHEEO Manual. There are 3,520 connections in the said areas having 135 LPCD.
He stated that administrative approval has been accorded for the said estimate and the work has already been tendered. The file was under process for obtaining expenditure sanction. Once the said scheme is taken and commissioned, the water supply to the said areas will be improved.
Until the problem is resolved, the chief engineer has indicated that water supply release timings in these areas so that the residents are at least ensured minimal water supply during the prescribed timings. The court has asked the PWD to publicise the timings so that the resident can make arrangements to store water released during the given timings.
The Chief Engineer-I has also mentioned water supply release timings for the Doan Paula residents from the Taleigao tank minimum for one hour and 30 minutes to two hours for the areas of Oitalem, Alto Nagali and part of Voilem Bhat, Taleigao areas, Ocean Park Phase II, Machado Cove, Vainguinim Valley, Ocean Park, La Oceana, Nagalli Hills, Sagar Society, La Marvel Jetty, Cacra Supply, Caranzalem areas, Odxel, Landscape Town Odxel, Goa University.
Also from the Nagali tank, water will be released to the areas of La Citadel Colony, Raviraj Colony, White House, Dona Paula (Hawai Beach), Aivao 1, Aivao 2 and Cidade de Goa areas minimum for one hour and 30 minutes to two hours.
In May this year, the High Court had taken suo motu cognisance of a letter regarding inadequate water supply to Dona Paula and surrounding areas, and had directed the PWD principal chief engineer to ensure that the residents of La Oceana Colony Trust, Dona Paula are assured of at least three hours a day drinking water supply.
