SANGUEM: The road to Xelpem village from Dabamol is in need of urgent repairs given the numerous potholes that have developed all along the road from Dabamol village.
The road which was constructed several years ago lacks maintenance on account of which the road has turned into a death trap at many places.
The condition of the road worsened in the last one year due to the influx of industries at the Sanguem Industrial Estate which is in Xelpem village. On account of big factories having opened their establishments at Sanguem Industrial Estate, transport on the route from Dando to Xelpem have increased manifold.
With the arrival of monsoon, the potholes remain under water for most of the time due to which it becomes difficult for the vehicle riders to notice the potholes.
The situation is made all the more precarious for the two wheeler riders who suddenly run their vehicles over the potholes and lose control of their vehicles.
The problem for the two wheeler riders stands all the more compounded on account of a lack of street lights in the village along the road to Selaulim Dam.
After sunset, two wheeler riders face great hardship in maneuvering the potholes in the cover of darkness.
As the road to Xelpem village which runs onward to Selaulim Dam is frequented by tourists, the villagers have appealed the authorities to get the road repaired with immediate effect to avoid any casualties from taking place.
