PANJIM: The Goa State Election Commission (SEC) has directed the mamlatdars and joint mamlatdars, appointed as Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), to submit the initial delimitation and reservation of wards, across 186 panchayats, by December 15.
The general elections to 186 village panchayats are due in June 2022.
State Election Commissioner WV Ramanamurthy during a review meeting directed EROs and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO) to use draft Electoral roll of the State Legislative Assembly, published on November 1, to form the village panchayat wards, in the first instance.
“EROs shall submit the initial delimitation proposals prepared considering draft Roll 2021 to the respective district Collectors for verification and scrutiny by December 15,” said SEC in a press statement issued.
The district Collectors, would further submit the draft proposal to the Commission for action.
SEC said that the final published Electoral Roll with qualifying date as January 1, 2022 would be utilize to assign voters to the Panchayat wards and reformation of the Panchayat wards if required.
Following recent amendment to the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, the task of dividing Panchayat area into wards and reservation of seats is assigned to SEC in consultation with the Government.
