Panjim: Sampad Desai and Dubinsky Soares, both residents of Cuncolim and Benaulim, have ventured into crab breeding, a business that is gaining significant traction. Currently producing 1000 crabs, they employ a vertical cage system that they learned through training in Chennai. The local and international markets exhibit substantial demand for crabs, making it a profitable endeavor.
The two entrepreneurs are planning to scale up production to meet the high demand and appreciate the support they’ve received from the Fisheries Department. They mentioned that while the Goa government has financial schemes for pond production, they were assisted in obtaining a scheme from the Central Government under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for vertical cage production.
