MARGAO: Congress workers from Margao under the banner of Margao Block Congress Committee on Wednesday called on power officials at the Aquem power house in view of the failure of the department to issue monthly bills to the consumers.
The Congress workers led by Block President Gopal Naik and Councillors Doris Texeira, Damu Shirodkar and Avinash Shirodkar called on Superintending Engineer Laxmikant Kolvalkar and submitted a memorandum drawing his attention to the six month delay in issuing the power bills. “The delay of six months has created a sort of panic amongst the power consumers from Margao. If the bills are issued now for six months, the consumers will find it difficult to make payments at one time”, Gopal said, while demanding an installment facility for the consumers.
While demanding to know the reason behind the huge delay in issuing the bills, the Congress workers urged the department officials to ensure that power bills in the future are issued on a monthly basis.
Mahila Congress leader and Councillor Doris Texeira said that the power consumers should be given the installment facility for payment of the bills. “The power consumers should not suffer for no fault of theirs”, she said.
After giving a patient hearing, Kolvalkar attributed the problem of delay in raising the bills to the decision to hand over the work of preparing bills from a private agency to Goa Electronics Ltd.
