BICHOLIM: Denial by father to give a new cell phone led to the death of a 17-year-old girl from Maina Navelim in Sanquelim, who immolated herself.
According to the information, Vaishali Sharad Naik, who immolated herself by pouring kerosene on Wednesday died due to burn injuries. The fire also engulfed the house and destroyed two rooms.
The deceased had demanded a mobile set from her father who refused to give in to her demand. After her father left home to drop her three sisters to college, she set herself on fire by pouring kerosene. The matter came to light when her mother who was in bathroom came out.
The girl was immediately rushed to CHC Sakhali for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. The body of the deceased was handed over to relatives for final rites after conducting post mortem.
