MARGAO: The government has promised to work out a solution to the problems faced by the 29 employees attached to the defunct Benaulim prawn hatchery by absorbing them in other departments.
The employees along with their families called on the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado and Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva seeking their intervention to solve the long-pending problem.
They drew attention of the trio to their grievances, including absorption in any government department since the hatchery has been lying defunct over five years now. They pointed out that the government has even rolled back their 6th pay commission benefits on grounds that they are not putting in any work.
When contacted, the Fisheries Minister said the government would accommodate the 29 employees in Science and Technology and other departments, including Fisheries department as and when vacancies are created. “We will accommodate all the 29 employees in government departments. The government is sympathetic to their cause,” Avertano said.
Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva told media persons that he would take up cudgels for the beleaguered employees. “The interests of these employees will be fully protected. I have discussed the mater with the Chief Minister and will pursue it till their grievances are resolved,” Caitu assured.
Sources said the CM has sought some time to absorb all these employees in government or semi-government departments.
