PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro on Tuesday urged the party High Command to relieve him from the post stating ‘my job is done’.
Faleiro on Tuesday evening held a marathon meeting with AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi requesting him to accept his resignation, which he had tendered in October 2015.
“I had a meeting with the party high command and pursued my resignation with them. I was told to take charge during that crucial period and to build the party. I did my job and accordingly I had tendered my resignation,” Faleiro told Herald.
He said the party had asked him to continue till the Assembly elections, and he followed the order and got the people’s mandate. “My job is done,” he commented.
The party president further said, “The high command, however, is not ready to relieve me but I have tried to convince them.”
Faleiro was appointed party President in October 2014. Under his leadership the party won 17 seats out of 38 it contested in the February elections. However, he came under criticism after party failed to form the State government despite emerging as the single largest party in the polls. The criticism blew up in form of a protest with several MLAs demanding a change in leadership.
