Dy collector inspects cleanliness at Mapusa bus stand

Bardez Deputy Collector Dashrath Redkar along with the authorities concerned inspected the Kadamba bus stand at Mapusa on Thursday and directed the officials of Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) to manage cleanliness at the bus stand.
The authorities also directed the KTC officials, Civil Engineer Gurudas Naik and Depot Manager C A J Pereira, to demarcate parking and no-parking areas for vehicles.
Redkar and Mapusa municipal engineer Vishnu Naik along with GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins, Assistant Director of Transport Ivo Rodrigues, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector S R Parwadker and Health Officer of Urban Health Centre, Mapusa, Dr Pratima Thali inspected the premises of Kadamba bus stand.
The deputy collector also observed that two-wheelers and private vehicles were parked in a haphazard manner in the premises of Kadamba bus stand.
Martins suggested that KTC should demarcate specific area for pay parking and rest of the areas should be reserved for parking of buses. “The KTC will be able to generate revenue if more area is allotted for pay parking,” said Martins.
Ivo Rodrigues said if KTC demarcate the areas for parking and non-parking, then his departments and traffic police will be able to take necessary action against those who park their vehicles in no-parking zone.
Deputy Collector Redkar directed the KTC officials to demarcate the area for parking and no-parking of vehicles at the bus stand and put signboards accordingly as early as possible.
Redkar also directed the KTC officials to make arrangement to lift garbage on daily basis and not to permit shopkeepers to dump garbage in the open spaces and appoint security guards to ensure discipline at the bus stand.
Later speaking to media, Deputy Collector Redkar said he had received several complaints about unhygienic conditions and parking problems in the Kadamba bus stand.
“Hence, I convened a meeting of the officials of KTC, Regional Road Transport Office and NGOs on September 29 to discuss the issue,” informed Redkar.
“After discussions, it was decided to have joint inspection of the Kadamba bus Stand on Thursday,” he added.
Accordingly, joint inspector was carried out and based on the suggestions from the public, Redkar directed the KTC to initiate steps to maintain cleanliness at the bus stand, to depute security guards, demarcate parking and non-parking areas and weed-out grass grown in the premises of the bus stand premises.
Martins expressed happiness at the action by the deputy collector and said they will monitor the situation every fortnightly regarding orderly parking of vehicles and cleanliness at the bus stand.
“GOACAN also suggested for a plastic collection centre near Sulabh Shouchalaya and brought to the notice of Redkar and officials of KTC that most of the shopkeepers in the premises of stand premises do not posses license from Food and Drug and Administration,” said Martins.
