BELGAUM: Members of various Kannada organizations have formed the Kannada Organisations Action Committee (KOAC) and have petitioned Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah to ask the Goa government to stop eviction of Kannadigas in Goa.
Stepping up their pressure, the forum has now threatened to stop supplies of milk, meat, vegetables and fruits from Belgaum to Goa, if Goa continues with the eviction of the Kannadigas.
Taking serious note of the demolition of huts at Baina, members of various Kannada organizations, who have formed the KOAC submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah through the deputy commissioner of Belgaum.
KOAC alleged that the Kannadigas from north Karnataka and neighbouring regions, many of whom have migrated to Goa, have made valuable contribution to the development of Goa.
“It was cruel on the part of Goan authorities to evict the families and leave them in a bewildered condition during rainy season, while families from other states who have their permanent establishments on Baina beach were not evicted,” stated the forum.
“This is not the first time that injustice has been meted out to the Kannadigas. The last time when the Kannada families were evicted from Baina, the same land was given to businessmen,” alleged the forum and warned that if Goa continues with the eviction then it would be forced to stop supplies of milk, meat, vegetables and fruits to Goa, as Goa depends entirely on Karnataka for these items.
“Goa which depends on Karnataka and Kannadigas for its revenue through tourism will be totally paralyzed if Kannadigas are forced to leave Goa,” warned Kalyanrao Muchalambi, the forum convenor.
