PANJIM: The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) is conducting a course for umpires, specifically aimed at former cricket players, on September 9 and 10. The course will culminate in a written exam for all participants under the age of forty, Vipul Phadke, the President of GCA, told a press conference held at the GCA boardroom, in Porvorim.
Interested individuals, including former Ranji players and cricket enthusiasts, are required to fill out a Google form that has been made available on the GCA’s Facebook page and website, as per Vipul Phadke’s statement.

The course for umpires is designed to enhance the continuous professional development of umpires, preparing them better for BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) exams. It will focus on improving communication skills and ensuring familiarity with the rules and laws of the game. The course is open to both men and women, and it is emphasized that only those who fill out the Google forms will be considered for participation.
The upcoming 2023-24 cricket season is expected to commence on October 15. GCA’s joint secretary Rupesh, mentioned that scorers have also been invited to attend the course to keep them updated with the latest technology. The intention is to start the season with inter-school matches.
