PANJIM: State government reconstituted State Level Co-ordination-cum-Empowered Committee under chairmanship of Chief Secretary for regulating mining activities in the State, in its efforts to ensure that there is no delay on making preparations as and when mining starts after the apex court nod, an officer stated.
The 16-member committee has the mandate to look into various aspects of mining, right from clearances from various departments, to keep a check on illegal mining.
The earlier committee did not meet even once.
The present committee is supposed to ensure that the clearances/NOCs/ approvals are given by forest, environment and other concerned departments with propriety.
It can issue directions to set up joint teams to ensure cessation of illegal mining. It will monitor approval of mineral concessions and comply with concession conditions, verify mineral trading and storage plots and mine boundaries, develop mechanism to keep vigil on trucks, vehicles, barges from loading points to port.
Other members: principal secy (mines), mines director, regional controller of mines, IBM member, CCF, secy MoEF, member secretary GSPCB, Collectors and SPs etc.
