PANJIM: Larsen and Toubro, which is building the Rs 900-odd cr third Mandovi bridge and the Mala-Patto link bridge has bagged yet another project.
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) will install 450 cameras in the capital by July 15 under the Goa intelligent management system project, which is estimated to cost of Rs 180 crore. L&T, which has been picked for a similar project in Nagpur, beat BSNL, Honeywell and NEC by emerging as the lowest bidder with their bid of Rs 180 crore.
IPSCDL vice-chairman Siddharth Kuncaliencar said that the letter of intent has been issued to L&T and the first phase of work will include laying of the optical fibre network, creation of Wi-Fi hotspots at key locations, setting up of the integrated command and control centre to monitor the city and installation of 450-odd surveillance cameras.
Expected to be operational in the next four months, the command and control centre will cover the entire city with 400-odd surveillance cameras, and will be integrated with the Corporation of the City of Panaji’s garbage management system and the Goa Police control room.
The intelligent city management system will see the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, air quality sensors, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, emergency management systems, and security systems. The entire system, which will be implemented in a phased manner, said officials.
Kuncaliencar further said that smart cards for all Panjim residents will be issued in the next month. “This will help small time traders who otherwise have to pay commission to the bank. We have tied up with HDFC bank and they will waive off the charges if this card is used,” he said.
