CURCHOREM: With no representative of the Archbishop and Guardian Angel Church Curchorem turning up for the meeting convened by the Quepem Deputy Collector, parishioners on Tuesday decided to go ahead with the agitation to demand reinstatement of Fr James Torres e Silva as parish priest.
The meeting was convened between the parishioners and Quepem Deputy Collector and SDO Prashant Shirodkar in his chamber to discuss the issue.
“As requested by my office, all the parishioners were present for the meeting except official/representative of the Archbishop and committee members of Guardian Angel Church, Curchorem,” informed Shirodkar.
He said he has requested all the parishioners to maintain peace and harmony. “The parishioners told me that they will go ahead with the agitation in a peaceful manner,” added Shirodkar. “I wanted both the parties to come and amicably discuss the matter and find a favourable solution to the crisis,” he said.
Speaking to Herald, former Confraria president William Fernandes said he is thankful to the Deputy Collector and Curchorem PI Siddhant Shirodkar for showing keen interest to solve the issue. “I was also expecting the same from the Church authorities,” added Fernandes.
Confraria president Anthony Menezes said all the parishioners, who had presented their arguments before the deputy collector, demanded that Fr James should be reinstated as parish priest and a new Fabrica committee should be installed immediately.
“We have informed the deputy collector that we are going ahead with the agitation and assured that everything will be done peacefully,” Menezes told Herald.
Besides Curchorem PI Shirodkar and PSI Therron D’Costa, parishioners Prisca Fernandes, Paxiao Pereira, Domnic Mascarenhas, Mathew D’Costa, Desmond Cardozo and Salvador Pereira were present for the meeting.
