PANJIM: Former Member of Parliament Amrut Kansar’s mortal remains were cremated at the St Inez crematorium on Tuesday.
A large number of people, including politicians, activists and lawyers bid adieu to the constitutional expert and former MP. His admirers, elected representatives, political leaders, litterateurs, friends, relatives and members of various organisations attended the funeral and paid their respects.
Former MP Shantaram Naik, former chief ministers Laxmikant Parsekar, Digambar Kamat, former minister Rajendra Arlekar, Minister Rohan Khaunte, trade union leader Christopher Fonseca, former AG Saresh Lotlikar, RSS leader Subhash Velingkar were among those who attended the final rites in Panjim.
Kansar’s mortal remains were kept at his residence in Porvorim for the public to pay their respects and later were taken in a procession to St Inez crematorium.
Velingkar said, “I being in the right wing and Kansar being a left oriented thinker which is completely opposite to me, his social work towards society was never affiliated to the left wing.”
Naik said that Kansar had the opportunity of being MP for just two years but his work in those years is memorable. “If he had to get full tenure then he would have done wonders,” he said.
Kansar passed away on Monday morning after a brief illness.
