ANJUNA: A 33-year-old Russian national Ekafovina Michail Sivolobova, who was on a visit to Goa with a group of foreigners died of suspected drug overdose after partying at a club in Anjuna on Tuesday night.
Sources revealed that the woman died due to suspected drug overdose at a club in Anjuna and was later shifted to District Hospital at Mapusa in a ‘108 ambulance’.
When contacted, Anjuna PI Chetan Patil said a case of unnatural death has been registered at the Anjuna Police Station and the post mortem will be conducted on Thursday.
He said, “The deceased was in Goa with a group of foreigners including her husband. They were staying at Calangute and she died in the hospital. We do not know what exactly happened. We were informed about the incident on Wednesday morning”.
When Herald tried to contact investigating officer PSI Harish Vaigankar, he refused to pick up the calls.
However, police sources revealed that the deceased visited two night clubs in Anjuna on Tuesday.
“She died of drug overdose as these clubs are known for psychedelic trance music and rave parties,” informed sources.
The Anjuna Police are investigating the case.
It may be recalled that this year (upto September), 13 cases have been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In 2017 12 such cases were registered. Around 50 people have been arrested by Anjuna police in the last five years for possessing drugs and attempting to sell drugs including LSD and Methamphetamine.
It may be recalled that in September, Shashank Sharma, a native of Hyderabad died due to a suspected drug overdose few hours after visiting a club in Anjuna. The deceased was partying along with his brother when he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
The Associate Professor at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Goa Medical College, Dr Andre V Fernandes informed Herald that Hyderabad youth died due to overdose but the chemical, substance or poison was yet to be revealed. The category under which this substance comes is not yet ascertained.
