While sources were unable to state the date when the pardon application was sent, they confirmed that the government has given its nod to the Governor to decide favourably on the application.
However, when asked on Monday about Pacheco’s pardon application, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said he had not received any application.
In a related development, the Economic Development Corporation has sought permission to confiscate Pacheco’s property in the cheque bounce case. Pacheco who had availed of an EDC loan had sent the corporation a cheque that bounced.
Pacheco has also sought 30 days parole to treat his ailing mother Luisa. Sources said that Luisa is now better, and when Pacheco applied for the parole, his mother was shifted from his brother’s house to Pacheco’s house.
Pacheco was convicted for slapping an Electricity Department junior engineer and sentenced to six months in jail. His appeal in the Supreme Court was rejected and after remaining in hiding for weeks, he had surrendered in early June.
