PONDA: The Bandora gram sabha on Sunday demanded action by the panchayat against the growing number of illegal huts in Shapoor ward of the village.
The villagers complained that the huts have no toilet facilities, as such, are discharging human waste in the open.
The issue of Sewerage Treatment Plant was also raised at the meeting, with the people demanding to know where the plant would be set up, since the sewerage line work is in full swing. To which, the panchayat sought time to gather and supply the information as to where the treatment plant would be set up.
Sarpanch Nayan Naik assured to approach higher authorities for details of the plant location and provide the information to the public.
It may be recalled that after the work of laying pipeline for STP commenced in Bandora, the residents of Undir ward in the village, suspecting that the plant would come up in their ward, objected to the same. The locals are of the opinion that the STP should not be built in residential area, but at an isolated place.
The third issue discussed at the meeting was the garbage problem and people asked the panchayat to solve the same.
Taking note of the fact that temple halls are being rented out for marriage functions and earning income, the villagers demanded that the panchayat collect higher tax from these halls.
The panchayat secretary assured to act on the demand of gram sabha.
