United we stand, divided we fall

The 2022 Goa assembly elections have thrown up some interesting factors worthy of analysis.

First and foremost the elections have proved that money power is not the only factor that makes winners but it is a fact that many votes became a purchasable commodity and money has definitely made some winners or losers in the election and some of the very shocking defeats and victories have given credence to the famous quote “united we stand, divided we fall.”

It is currently observed that many of the losing candidates and some parties are blaming their loss on some candidates or the newly formed parties which made an impact on the current elections. But in the democracy it must be remembered that all or any party has a right to contest, but it is a ground level precise calculation that counts an also chanakyagiri works but the main fact is unity prevails and definitely very essential for success or defeat. It is also very clearly observed that the division of votes in the present election has made fluke winners and may be luck and prevailing situation of the moment might have played their part .The present vote share of the party currently in power has not changed since the last elections but the created division of votes came to its rescue and resultant success.

The noteworthy thing about this elections are the candidates who have won minus money power and this is the welcome sign and relief to many who mostly believed that money power is a very significant factor to win the election and this elections has broken the myth.

The general electorate must come out of their ingrained false belief and in future vote for deserving, clean, candidates who have the potential, character and practical vision for a better society otherwise we will again get the underserving, selfish representatives who continue with their self-centred acts directed at their own personal development.

We must introspect for the reasons why our Goans have to migrate elsewhere when they could have been in their home State if our policy framers with a clear vision and directives provided job opportunities here itself as not doing so has badly affected our culture and demography that are prevalent and presently affecting us.

It is said that where there is a will there is a way and if we firmly believe in it and if we want to bring the desired change then our very mindset has to change and ensure that only desirable and sincere candidates become our representatives and hence the rest should just prefer to take a walk. Let our message henceforth to them be loud and clear that as candidates they should deserve our votes and so our collective decision must be firm.

The non-performing representatives of the past desiring to contest again should be dumped in the dustbins of history .The present elections have shown that a revolution has just begun and there is a change in the mindset of the people and it has been ignited and hopefully should continue but be properly directed through proper organisation and planning and not to let divisive forces play their dirty tricks again which affect our future. We should unselfishly think in our larger interests and not get bogged down by our narrow mindedness.

It is very clear now that people have realised that in spite of showering money, giving goodies, promises, etc, most of the people have rejected all of it and have now voted for the candidate whom they felt deserved they vote. However, it is a regret that they felt prey for the very forces that they might have felt they wanted to defeat and minus a plan and strategy which was very much essential and so missed the plot. History is replete with examples of such mistakes and henceforth one must learn from all the past mistakes which have changed the course of our present reality.

Therefore the much needed requirement and the need of today is a threadbare study or introspection and what are the present problems facing us and why it is so. We cannot cry over spilt milk but definitely plan for a better future.

Now it is the time to plan effectively, join forces and unitedly have a plan that ensures that we learn from our past mistakes whether being aware or unaware.

We have to preserve our society for prosperity which will be fully proud or ashamed of us depending on our contribution towards it. Let us forget the past and let us not our mistakes be detrimental to our future but instead let us be positively futuristic with a forward looking outlook prevailing upon us. Let us not bend for narrow gains but be upright and walk for the right reasons.

Our vote in the right direction will prevent us from cribbing afterwards so we must have a fervent resolve to set things right and which were going wrong for so long and hence a united effort with proper planning and strategy will ease us of the existing problem but we should unite and have proper application of mind. Hence I would once again caution and state “United we stand, divided we fall” as proved and experienced by Goa in the current assembly elections.
