PANJIM: In a tragic incident Adv Vijay Palekar and his 13-year-old niece Tanisha Thakur from Arambol drowned in a river at Kudashe, Dodamarg in Maharashtra, on Saturday.
The tragedy occurred when Adv Palekar (55), residing at Taleigao, along with his relatives had gone for a picnic at Kudashe. Most of the relatives had entered water for a bath.

Suddenly, Adv Palekar noticed his sister struggling in water and crying for help. He and his niece Tanisha rushed towards her but all got drowned.
On hearing cries for help, Yeshwant Desai, a farmer who was working his in farm rushed to the spot and rescued all three in an unconscious state.
As ambulance was not immediately available, the other family members rushed them to the nearest primary health centre, Casarvarne, Pernem in their own vehicles where doctors declared Adv Palekar and Tanisha Thakur brought dead.
