MARGAO: “I wasn’t in the fray to contest the elections next time round but I have now begun rethinking on the same,” Margao Municipal Council chairperson Arthur D’Silva said, after being grilled by Crime Branch for two hours in connection with the Louis Berger and JICA bribery case on Tuesday.
He was reacting to the demands from Civil Society that he resign as Council chairperson.
“Two people cannot represent the whole municipal polity. My Council will tell me to step down, not some lay man” said D’Silva.
D’Silva was called to Crime Branch and questioned by Police Inspector Dattaguru Sawant from 9.15 am to 11 am on Tuesday. Asked why he filed an anticipatory bail application, D’Silva said, “Precaution is better than cure. We take tablets before we get fever. It’s the same funda.”
Regarding the calls to Crime Branch for interrogation he said, “I have respect for the investigation agency, the police and the courts and will appear as many times as they call.”
D’Silva also said he is not guilty or feeling bad about helping the Margao MLA with his RTI application and said he did it on humanitarian grounds.
He added that his family is paranoid since the day the police came to his house to serve summons and that he has managed to convince them that he has nothing to do with the case.
