MARGAO: Questioning the inordinate delay in developing the acquired land at Sonsodo for kabrastan, members of Margao’s Muslim community on Tuesday told the District Collector South to do the needful and hand over the same to the community before Eid next month.
A delegation of Muslims representing various organisations drew attention of Agrawal to the delay in developing the acquired land for burial grounds. Chairman of Goa Haj Committee Mohammed Iqbal and Chairman of Goa Urdu Academy Urfan Mullah made a forceful plea to the Collector to hand over the acquired land with all development before Eid next month.
BJP leader Damu Naik, who was present at the meeting, assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on priority basis and get the foundation stone laid at the earliest. Incidentally, the Chief Minister during his visit to Margao last month had promised to clear the kabrastan file within a week’s time. Meanwhile, the Collector has fixed an inspection of the Pajifond Kabrastan as he reviewed the work at the burial grounds along with the Muslim delegation. The inspection has been fixed after the community expressed their reservation over laying interlocking pavers on the ‘namaz’ ground.
