PANJIM: Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar has warned that he will initiate action against organizers of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival Supersonic if the cause of death of Isha Mantry is found to be due to drug overdose.
Mantry, a fashion designer, had collapsed and was brought dead from Supersonic festival to a private hospital on Monday late night.
Speaking to Herald, Parulekar said that if the postmortem report revealed that the death was due to drug overdose, the police department would be directed to initiate action against the organizers, government officials and police, who were on duty.
“Action would be initiated against each and every one. This is a serious incident and needs to be dealt with seriously,” the minister said. “The cause of death for now can be due to drug overdose or access alcohol consumption or some medicine she consumed. We will have to wait,” he added.
Parulekar said that the tourism department and police have been asked to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the case, the report of which would be placed before the single window system committee of tourism department for further action. “It would be too pre-mature to comment on whether Supersonic would be granted a license in future,” he said.
Mantry, who worked on films that included ‘Mary Kom’ starring Priyanka Chopara, medical thriller ‘Ankur Arora Murder Case’, ‘Dangerous Ishq’ and ‘Hate Story 2’ was brought dead on December 29 to a hospital in Calangute. She was in Goa to attend the Supersonic EDM festival.
The police preliminary report states that the victim had consumed access alcohol.
Isha’s viscera to be sent for chemical analysis
PANJIM: The postmortem was conducted on the body of Isha Mantry by a panel of four doctors, who have said that the opinion on cause of death is reserved pending chemical analysis of viscera and hystopathological examination.
The forensics department of the GMC has preserved the viscera samples to be sent to the Central Forensics Science Laboratory at Hyderabad for chemical analysis. The viscera report will ascertain whether she died of alcohol poisoning or drug abuse.
The panel of GMC doctors carried out the autopsy on the body at about 2.10 pm after consent from the family members. The body was handed over to her family at about 4.55 pm from where it was taken to St Inez crematorium for cremation. “Isha’s family preferred cremating the body in Goa itself rather than taking it to their native place in Odisha or to Mumbai. They are in a state of shock. It will take them time to overcome the trauma,” one of Mantry’s friends told Herald. Meanwhile, Calangute police have recorded statements of 17 witnesses who reportedly ruled out consumption of drugs.
