When this ramp was built on the Curtorim side of River Zuari, hopes were raised that people would soon be able to travel to Shiroda and Sanvordem with minutes.
It’s now, nearly two years and half since the ramp was built, but the promised ferry service is yet to become a reality.
While the ferry ramp at Curtorim is in place since two years and half, the ramp and the approach road on the other side of the river at Mankeam at Shiroda is yet to see light of the day.
Residents of Curtorim have now urged the government to press into service a ferry between Curtorim and Shiroda to alleviate the sufferings of the people travelling to Shiroda and Sanvordem.
A resident Sudin Sawant said a ferry service between Curtorim and Shiroda would narrow the travelling time to Sanvordem and Shiroda.
“If we have to now travel for an hour to reach Sanvordem, the distance can be covered within 15-30 minutes if the two points are connected by a ferry service”, he added.
Another resident Clemente Fernandes said that the ferry service would also benefit the residents of Macazana and Chandor and called upon the government to build the approach road to the ferry point on the Shiroda side of the river.
He appealed to the Shiroda MLA Mahadev Naik to take up the work at the earliest so that the ferry service becomes a reality.
