MARGAO: Claiming that Goan postmen who have been working on contract-basis for more than 16 years live in the fear of losing their jobs, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has urged the Goa government to push the Central government to make their positions permanent. In a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Lourenco stated that these Goan postmen have crossed their age limit for finding a new jobs, and if they are retrenched from their present employment, their families, including their school-going children, will face great hardships.
During the recently-concluded monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly, Lourenco had highlighted the issue of Goan postmen employed on contract basis for more than 16 years, and the looming threat of them losing their jobs as new postmen will be soon recruited for the State of Goa.
“During the zero hour mention, I had requested the government to take up the aforementioned grievances of Goan Postmen with the Central Government on priority”, he stated.
He said in February 2021, he had brought this issue before the government
and had appealed the
State to request the then Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology S Ravi Shankar Prasad to look into the crucial matter.
