PANJIM: The Bombay High Court at Goa on Wednesday directed the concerned departments of the Goa government to ensure that major roads in Goa are pothole free within the next four weeks. The concerned departments officials have been asked to file compliance affidavit within next four weeks.

Adv G Panandikar who has been appointed as amicus curiae pointed out that potholes on some of the major road stretches remain to be filled in or otherwise, these stretches remain to be repaired. These stretches are from Patradevi to Panjim and Panjim to Margao on NH 66, Karaswada to Bicholim and other major roads and frequently used and pothole ridden roads in the State. The Court has directed the government to get the potholes filled and the roads repaired within the given time frame.
Adv Panandikar said it is the responsibility of the government.
He said the government should ensure that the potholes on these stretches are filled in or otherwise the roads are properly repaired, Adv Panandikar pointed out that the works are on and urged the court to issue necessary directions for expeditious completion of the works.
The Court stated that concerned executive engineers within whose jurisdiction the above stretches fall must supervise, if possible on a daily basis, so that there is no further delay. Further, the executive engineers must submit reports to the Superintending Engineers, who based on such reports should file compliance reports on or before the next date of hearing on November 14. At the same time, the Court has given liberty to the amicus curies to approach them before the next hearing if he finds that the works are not progressing.
